South Asia
South Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the impacts of climate change. Recurring extreme weather events such as heat waves, cyclones and floods are exhausting the communities’ and governments’ capacity to adapt to these impacts. It is estimated that the impact of climate change will worsen the living conditions of around 800 million people in the region, exacerbating the existing challenges like food insecurity, water scarcity, and disaster risks.
IFSD aims to address these impacts by undertaking comprehensive analysis of vulnerabilities and potentials in the region. Through capacity building and training, local communities will be equipped with essential climate knowledge and skills, enabling them to devise sustainable solutions that enhance climate resilience and adaptation. In South Asia we focus on water security, loss and damage, ecosystem restoration, food security, governance, policy analysis, disaster risk, and gender inclusion.
Ongoing work in the region are Nepal, India, Bangladesh
