Pacific
The Pacific region faces acute vulnerability to climate change due to its small island states, low-lying islands, and coastal zones. Impacts such as rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and intensified natural disasters like cyclones and droughts have profound socio-economic and environmental consequences. Sea level rise alone threatens about 97% of the region’s population, endangering livelihoods, infrastructure, and biodiversity while exacerbating displacement and cultural loss.
At IFSD, we are committed to advancing sustainable and inclusive climate solutions in the Pacific. Our approach emphasises collaboration with local stakeholders to foster resilience and safeguard the environment. By supporting knowledge sharing and capacity building, IFSD helps to address the unique challenges of the region, enabling communities to adapt while preserving their cultural and natural heritage.
Our focus areas in Pacific region include:
- Water Security
- Loss and Damage
- Climate Resilience
- Food and Agrobiodiversity
- Gender Inclusion
Currently, IFSD is actively engaged in supporting sustainable development initiatives in Vanuatu, focusing on addressing climate-related challenges and strengthening community resilience.
