Vanuatu

Vanuatu, a Pacific island nation, is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, intensifying cyclones, and extreme weather events. These challenges threaten its coastal communities, disrupt livelihoods, and damage vital infrastructure, exacerbating the socio-economic vulnerabilities of its population. As a country on the frontline of the climate crisis, Vanuatu requires urgent and targeted strategies to address climate-induced loss and damage.

IFSD is working in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change, Vanuatu, to support initiatives that address the escalating impacts of climate change. By focusing on evidence-based research and capacity-building efforts, we are working to enhance the country’s ability to tackle loss and damage and build resilience against climate-induced challenges. Our work emphasises strategic partnerships and the development of sustainable, locally driven solutions.

IFSD’s initiatives in Vanuatu

  • STRENGTH Project: As part of this initiative, IFSD works with the Department of Climate Change to strengthen climate resilience through evidence generation, policy advocacy, and community-based interventions policies that address climate-induced loss and damage, ensuring the needs of vulnerable communities are prioritised.

Through these initiatives, IFSD strives to support Vanuatu in achieving climate resilience and sustainable development.
