Nepal
Nepal, with its complex geography and dependency on agriculture and natural resources faces ongoing challenges related to water scarcity, climate-induced loss and damage, and deforestation. Climate change exacerbates these issues, with erratic weather patterns, declining water resources, and ecosystem degradation further impacting rural communities that depend on natural systems for their livelihoods.
In Nepal, IFSD focuses on generating evidence to address these pressing challenges. We have contributed to research and policy analysis on water security in the Himalayas. Our work is grounded in advancing water security, enhancing sustainable forest management, and addressing climate-related loss and damage. By integrating a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) approach, we ensure that our research and policy contributions support equitable and transformative outcomes.
IFSD’s initiatives in Nepal
- STRENGTH Project: Partnering with Prakriti Resources Centre (PRC) as a country partner for the STRENGTH project, IFSD provides technical assistance and capacity building to support communities in building resilience to climate change, contributing to broader climate justice efforts.
- RESTORE Knowledge Hub: Facilitating knowledge-sharing initiatives on forest tenure and ecosystem restoration to strengthen adaptive capacity and sustainable resource management.
Through these initiatives, IFSD collaborates with stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and local communities, to foster evidence-based solutions for Nepal’s climate and resource challenges.
