WHY TIMOR-LESTE MATTERS

Building Climate Resilience in Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste stands at a critical development crossroads. As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable Small Island Developing States, the country faces escalating risks from climate change, environmental degradation, food insecurity, and water stress.

Over seventy percent of the population relies on agriculture and natural resources for livelihoods. Rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, flooding, droughts, and sea-level rise continue to threaten farming systems, ecosystems, and infrastructure.

IFSD works in Timor-Leste because long-term resilience requires locally grounded, evidence-based, and collaborative solutions that strengthen both people and ecosystems.
