GENDER AND INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT
The Challenge
Despite gradual progress on gender equality, significant gender disparities and social exclusion persist, particularly in developing regions. Climate change induced extreme disasters disproportionately affect women and marginalised groups, exacerbating pre-existing inequalities. Systemic barriers often restrict their access to resources, participation in decision-making, and economic opportunities. According to the UN, women are 14 times more likely than men to die during natural disasters, often due to limited access to resources and decision-making roles. These inequities are compounded by cultural norms, discriminatory policies, and socio-economic constraints, hindering sustainable development and social cohesion. Addressing these inequities requires a comprehensive approach that integrates gender inclusive strategies, empowers marginalised voices, and fosters inclusive, equitable solutions to build resilience and drive transformative change.
Our Goals and Commitments
At IFSD, we believe that sustainable and transformative progress can only be achieved when everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive. Gender equality and social inclusion are essential pillars of resilient and prosperous communities. We are committed to empowering women and marginalised groups by developing pathways that ensure equitable access to resources, amplify their voices in decision-making, and drive socio-economic transformation. We integrate gender-sensitive analysis and social equity across all our projects, ensuring that inclusivity is at the forefront of our sustainable development initiatives.
Our Approach
IFSD champions gender equality and inclusive development through innovative, contextually relevant, and evidence-based strategies. We undertake locally engaged and applied research to identify systemic inequities and develop evidence-based stratgies that can drive meaningful change. Our capacity-building programs focus on empowering local stakeholders with the skills and knowledge to advocate for and implement inclusive practices. Collaborating with international and local partners, we design and deliver tailored interventions that respond to the diverse needs of communities. By ensuring every initiative is inclusive and equitable, we contribute to creating sustainable solutions that uplift marginalised groups and promote ajust and resilient society.
