Bangladesh
Bangladesh is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, facing the devastating impacts of rising sea levels, frequent cyclones, and riverine flooding. These challenges disproportionately affect millions of people, particularly marginalised communities, by eroding livelihoods, exacerbating poverty, and displacing populations. Addressing loss and damage from these climate-induced disasters is critical for safeguarding Bangladesh’s socio-economic stability and advancing climate justice.
In Bangladesh, IFSD collaborates with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) to co-lead the STRENGTH project, focusing on understanding and addressing climate-induced loss and damage. Through this partnership, IFSD generates local insights on how communities are experiencing loss and damage, identifies existing responses, and assesses the needs for long-term resilience and recovery.
IFSD’s initiatives in Bangladesh:
- STRENGTH Project: Co-leading this initiative with ICCCAD, IFSD is contributing to in-depth research and capacity-building efforts aimed at documenting local experiences of climate-induced loss and damage and advocating for equitable solutions with the ultimate goal of achieving climate justice.
Through this initiative, IFSD plays a role in strengthening Bangladesh’s capacity to address climate challenges and achieve resilience and justice for affected communities.
