Period: November 2022 – ongoing
Client: International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
Collaborator: International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD)
Project Overview:
The Strengthening Loss and Damage response capacity in the Global South (STRENGTH) project addresses critical knowledge and capacity gaps in developing Loss and Damage (L&D) policies and mechanisms for the most vulnerable countries in the Global South. With L&D recognised as the third pillar of international climate negotiations, the project focuses on systematically documenting climate-related losses and damages, both irreparable and recoverable, while highlighting overlooked facets, such as the loss of culture and biodiversity impacts on livelihoods. Through collaborative research, diagnostic studies, and knowledge-sharing forums, the project supports national-level policy and implementation frameworks tailored to diverse socio-environmental contexts.
Services Provided by IFSD:
- Co-leading the project alongside the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).
- Leading research activities and providing capacity-building support in T1 countries, specifically Nepal and Vanuatu.
- Conducting critical reviews, case studies, and policy analysis to inform evidence-based L&D strategies.
- Ensuring the quality and effective implementation of project outputs.
